It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steve Abbott, our beloved Executive Director, after battling prostate cancer for more than a decade.
Under Steve's determined leadership, Cincinnati Cancer Advisors and Cincinnati Cancer Foundation grew from a small team of three to a family of nearly 20, a testament to his vision and dedication.
No words can adequately describe Steve's impact on our organization and lives. We will be forever grateful for the foundation he passionately built.
Steve never complained about his illness and rarely stopped working because he cared so deeply about his purpose and our mission. We will carry on his legacy with the kindness, compassion, and determination he brought to the office daily.
Thank you for being such a dedicated advocate and an amazing human being. We will miss you, Steve.
“Steve inspired and will continue to inspire all of us with his incredible courage, grace, and dignity through such adversity. Truly one of the all-time great human beings, and we are all so fortunate for his extremely positive influence on our lives. Steve will continue to live on through all of us.” - Dr. William Barrett, Founder
Steve started the blog below in February 2022 to chronicle his cancer treatment journey. He hoped that by sharing his experience, he could impart some wisdom, or at least experience, to prostate cancer patients, plus other cancer patients in general. Steve is not a medical professional, so he took great pains in not overstepping or dispensing medical advice. At every turn, he tried to be a well-informed patient and help pass along his learnings, hoping that it might help guys better understand their choices when facing these bewildering treatment options.
Thanks to Steve's friend Donna Salyers and a well-known book publisher, Richard Hunt, this blog was recast, designed, printed, and bound as a book titled Survive and Advance, which is now on shelves at Roebling Books & Coffee and Joseph-Beth Booksellers. As Steve intended with this project, proceeds benefit our mission at Cincinnati Cancer Advisors.
